The Horse

Mr Riggs

9yo - Carnegie x Pivoine - 23/9/03

Mr Riggs, nicknamed 'Riggs', was retired from the track in May 2012 after sustaining a tendon bow at eight years of age. He had raced sixty-one times, winning nine races and performing admirably in group and listed company, even running in the 2012 Adelaide Cup. When I put my feelers out for a retiring racehorse I hardly expected my future horse to be this grand old warhorse. And yet mine he became. After careful consideration his trainer decided that I would be able to give him a fantastic new life in mid August and on August 29 I met him for the first time. Once I finished my final year 12 exam, he moved to my Aunt's property on the 21st of November 2012 where his new life has begun. His tendon has healed nicely as of the time of posting, seven months post injury, and he will soon begin the retraining process.
